· Visitors planning to travel through or near the Smokies are urged to check the latest updates on the official park website before starting their trip. The affected roads are popular scenicroutes near Gatlinburg, linking Tennessee and North Carolina through the heart of the Great Smoky Mountains.
· Due to a landslide Aug. 1 on Newfound Gap Road/US 441, the main artery from North Carolina to Tennessee is closed indefinitely.
· GATLINBURG, Tenn. (WVLT) - The main route between Gatlinburg and Cherokee, North Carolina is still closed after a landslide in the Smokies. This means folks who want to leave Gatlinburg for a hike at some of the highest points of the mountains had to drive or find something else.
· Repairs are now complete on US 441, aka Newfound Gap Road. The National Park Service (NPS) has fully reopened US 441/Newfound Gap Road as of . This is over 18 days ahead of schedule. Single-lane closures may still be in place for several more days until all final work is completed.
· Newfound Gap Road/U.S. 441 in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is expected to be repaired by Sept. 30 after a washout and landslide Aug. 1 damaged about 125 feet of the road.
· This overlook on Newfound Gap Road is temporarily closed while maintenance crews assess cracks in the pavement and sidewalk. The overlook will reopen as soon as National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration crews make assessments and any needed repairs.
