In response to their lobbying, Congress authorized four broad projects to improve navigation on the upper river and a number of site-specific projects in the Twin Cities metropolitan area since 1866. The four broad projects are known as the 4-, 41/2-, 6- and 9-foot channel projects.
2 days ago · In this survey, we visit the bridges, locks, and dams on the MississippiRiver. We cover the entire river from its headwaters at Lake Itasca to the Head Of Passes where the river empties into the Gulf of Mexico. The MississippiRiver is commonly divided into four sections.
