Newfound Gap Road Alerts: Is US 441 Open For Travel Today?

· Severe rainfall caused a landslide on NewfoundGapRoad, also known as US441, between mile markers 12 and 13, causing the National Park Service to temporarily close a portion of the road on the Tennessee side.

· Repairs are now complete on US441, aka NewfoundGapRoad. The National Park Service (NPS) has fully reopened US441/NewfoundGapRoad as of . This is over 18 days ahead of schedule. Single-lane closures may still be in place for several more days until all final work is completed.

· Thanks to an outstanding collaboration between the National Park Service, the Federal Highway Administration, and local partners, Newfound Gap Road has been restored and is open to visitors.

· U.S. Route 441, also known as Newfound Gap Road, in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is closed until further notice, because it was damaged, officials said.

· NewfoundGapRoad/US Highway 441 will close today at 2 p.m. Sugarlands, Oconaluftee and Cades Cove visitor centers will close today at 3 p.m. through at least Saturday morning, weather and road conditions permitting.

· US 441/Newfound Gap Road remains closed to all traffic between Sugarlands and Newfound Gap due to the landslide event. Please follow signage and do not enter any closed areas.

· This overlook on NewfoundGapRoad is temporarily closed while maintenance crews assess cracks in the pavement and sidewalk. The overlook will reopen as soon as National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration crews make assessments and any needed repairs.
