Metra is officially expanding the schedules for several lines starting today, Sept. 8, including theUnion Pacific West Line to Elburn andtheBNSF Line to Aurora. The updated schedules aim to minimize capacity issues and other inconveniences during peak times.

On Friday, Metra announced a new schedule for its trains along the BurlingtonNorthern-SantaFe Railroad line “to better reflect actual operating conditions and minimize customer wait times,” according to a press release issued by the commuter rail agency.

A freight train derailment early Friday blocked all tracks on theMetraBNSF line betweenAuroraand Route 59, halting service for several hours. Service resumed around 8 a.m., but riders were warned to expect residual delays. The cause of the derailment has not yet been determined.
